Thigh
plateaus are found in the mountain ranges of Barapahada (literally 12 hills)
, Mountains Gandhamardan with an average elevation of 300-600 Meters . They
have all the peculiarities of peninsular tablelands. This area is generally
known as the Bargarh up lands of the Jira & Jhaun basin .Barapahada or the
land of twelve hills is the main hill range of Bargarh Subdivision
covering an area of 777 sq. Km . and attaining a height of 2,267 feet
(691.meters ) Debrigarh is the highest peak of this hill range . It is a
hill site suitable for Health resort . The Mahanadi formed a lake like
geological times to the north of this range . The Hirakud Dam has
reconstructed the natural barrier and repeated the ancient lake . While
Gandhamardan hill range running along the southern boundary of the ex-
Zamidaries of Borasambar separation it from the Bolangir and Nuapada
Districts . The hill range rises to 2000- 3000 feet ( 629.60 m to 914.40 m)
in height and reaches highest point 3,234 feet or 985.72 meter in the peak
of Nrusinghanatha. Another range branches off to the west of Nrusinghanatha
running first north- south and then North- East near Jagadalpur . where it
is broken by the River Ong. Another range runs eastward to Tal and than to
the north - east forming the boundary between the district of Chhatisgarh. |
