The  Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of  India have formulated a scheme for development of “Vanaspati Vana” over wastelands and degraded forest lands for the conservation and  propagation of  medicinal plants to meet the need of the Indian Systems of Medicine, including  Ayurveda, Unani, Sidha and Homeopathy systems of medicines and the enhanced use of these systems of Medicine in Reproductive and Child Health ProgrammeUnder  the ORISSA STATE VANSPATI VANA SOCIETY” registred under the Societies Registration Act,1860 Vanaswati Van Prakalpa is working in Nrusinghanath of Bargarh  & Harishankar of Balangir district.The Registered Office of Orissa State Van Society is situated at the premises of the  Conservator of Forests, Development Circle, At-Old Secretariate Building, Po.       Boxibazar, Dist –Cuttack ,Orissa.Pin-753 001  
The Basic Aim of the Society
i) To carry out scientific survey and  identify the high forests and degraded forests in the State which are the natural habitats of medicinal plants.
ii)  To take  effective steps for  conservation and development of the medicinal plants resources available  in the forests and wastelands of the State,
iii)  To raise plantations of important medicinal  plants over degraded forests and available wastelands with a view to improve availability of these rare and valuable plants resources.
iv) To develop hi-tech Plant Resources Centers for ex-situ conservation of medicinal plants resources.
v) To undertake adaptive research activities for standardizing nursery and plantation techniques for different medicinal plants including application of tissue culture and other modern micro-propagation technologies.
vi) To undertake documentation and dissemination of technologies including indigenous technical knowledge relating to conservation, propagation, non-destructive extraction and utilization of medicinal plants.
vii) To develop modern nurseries for different medicinal plants for raising plantations and for supplying adequate quantity and quality planting materials to the people for propagation on their farms and backyards.
viii)To create awareness among the common people including children regarding the importance of medicinal plants and to encourage them to protect and conserve the natural medicinal plant resources.
ix)To develop linkages between the growers of medicinal plants and reputed pharmaceutical houses for promoting and facilitating the use of Indian System of Medicine in Reproductive and Child Health Care.
x)To receive grants from the State Govt. the Central Govt. and Donor Agencies for the conservation, propagation and utilization of the medicinal plant resources of the State.
xi) To act as a platform for open debate, seminars, workshop, training programmes and field investigations on issues related to conservation and propagation of medicinal plants and their use.
To carry out any other activities in the furtherance of the above objectives
