13th Kalahandi Utsav 2009 will be held, as per
scheduled,from
14th Jan to 17th Jan
2009
in Lalbahadur Stadium Bhawanipatana .The utsav is renamed as Gumura
since 2006.
With the
inauguration of the Kalahandi Utsav in Lalbahadur Stadium
Bhawanipatana , the audience got a taste of Ghumura and varieties of folk
dances from Kalahandi and other parts of the country. The festival will
conclude on 17 January. A sub-divisional level Kalahandi Utsav will be
simultaneously held from 15 to 17 January at Dharamgarh.
Other than folk dances, a state-level Pallishree Mela by
Ormas and handloom exhibition across 120 stalls are the attractions of the
festival. Handicrafts from different parts of the state and traditional wood
craft and terracotta items sold well. Thousands thronged the fair. The fair
started with members of cultural troupes marching with a torch from
Manikeswari temple to the festival venue at Lalbahadur stadium. The
inaugural evening was marked by a performance by child Ghumura artists. Folk
dances such as Ghumura, Nuakhai dance of Kalahandi, Gotipua of Puri,
Kalarupaitu of Andhra Pradesh, Pandwani of Chhattisgarh and Dalkhai of
Bolangir willstaged at the inauguration. Inaugurating the festival
